Cayo Santiago is a small island (38 acres) just off of the southeastern coast of Puerto Rico. Cayo Santiago is a research field station which is home to approximately 1000 free-ranging rhesus macaques. The colony is run and maintained by the Caribbean Primate Research Center and the University of Puerto Rico, Medical Sciences Campus.

The Cayo Biobank Research Unit (CBRU) manages tissue collection and biobanking efforts occurring annually at the Caribbean Primate Research Center in Puerto Rico. The CBRU coordinates logistical aspects of tissue storage and tissue transfer between institutions and contributes to the development of bioinformatics tools for analyzing the large-scale genetic and epigenetic data for the project, as well as the computational analyses necessary for the completion of project aims.
